EOLA Wine Company

Q: YOU HAVE MANY WINES I HAVEN'T HEARD OF BEFORE. HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT CHOOSING THE WINES FOR YOUR STORE?

A: Our goal at Eola Wine Company is to give our customers a wine experience. We think a big part of that is in offering a large selection of eclectic, international wines, many by-the-glass. We work hard to find great, interesting, off-the-beaten-path products that will (we hope) open people’s eyes to the huge world of wine that is out there. We also understand that this can be intimidating for wine novices, which is why we offer plenty of wine “flights,” making if possible to try small tastes of 3 or 4 different wines, usually for around the price of a single full glass. And of course, we’re always available to answer any questions or to offer suggestions.

Q: WHAT IS THE "RETAIL CORKING FEE?"

A: Well, typically, restaurants and other service establishments asses a corking fee when guests bring in their own bottle(s) of wine – usually something in the $10-30 range, depending on the available selection of wine at the restaurant. In our case, in addition to our 80+ wines offered by-the-glass, we have over 250 retail selections, all of which are priced “out the door,” and competitively with other local retail stores. If guests choose to drink one of these bottles in the store, we charge a corking fee of $7, across-the-board, regardless of the price of the bottle. This simply helps us to off-set a little of our overhead (which is significant), and it really offers a tremendous value for guests wishing to drink a full bottle of wine.

Q: YOUR GLASSES SOMETIMES DON'T LOOK QUITE FULL. WHY AREN'T THEY FILLED TO THE TOP OF THE GLASS?

A: The stemware we use is made by a company called Riedel, which sets the standard in the industry for fine crystal stemware. The glasses average in size around 24-25 oz each – almost enough to fit an entire bottle of wine! Many popular restaurants pour 4-5 oz glasses of wine, but in smaller glasses – making the glass look much fuller. Our pours are 6 oz, but in much larger glasses, making it look like less wine is in the glass. But rest assured, our glasses are always full.
